since we've been so art crazy the last couple of weeks, i think we rubbed off on livi. the other night we were drawing & she says "look, it's me" & sure enough she had drawn her 1st ever livi self portrait!

young at art: student art show
well today was my BIGGEST art show ever , it was at the Houston Museum Of Natural Science - Sugar Land, TX & by far this has been the bestest day ever!!! i don't even know where to begin, there was just so many amazing things! first of all the dinosaurs were AWESOME & being able to have our art hang out with them, come on could it get any better than that?! mommy & daddy got to the museum at 9:45 this morning to help set up everything & they only had 4 hours to do it... can you say pressure!!! by the time everyone got there at 2:00, you wouldn't have known it was pure madness only 5 mins before it looked so cool. i have to say i'm so proud of all my friends & i with our artwork but most of all i super duper proud of ms. marjon she deserves all the credit for how talented we are! i mean it, we'd be lost without her, who know what our noses would look like if we tried a self portrait without learning from her first. even livi got to have a piece in the show, it's a watercolor she did with ms. marjon of a dragon with pink polka dots. back to the art show, it was pure craziness... there was so many people there. a special thank you to all my friends (school & church... you guys rock), parents of my friends, family (nonie & helpa, thanks for driving down just for the show), teachers (my kindergarten & 1st grade teacher came) & small group leaders (i love you guys) for coming, i felt like the luckiest girl in the world with all that love & support. i even got beautiful bouquets of pink daisies & yellow roses, they look really pretty in my room.. don't worry i shared with livi & she has some in her room too. it really does mean the world to me that you came out to see me & my passion for art & i'll be at all of your important events too! oh yeah, guess what, the big boss of the museum was so happy with our art show she wants us to this again.. whoo hoo!!! by the way i'm sorry if i didn't get to talk or even see you, it was really crazy & i feel bad about it. troy & rhydonna, thank you for driving so far & here's the ((hugs)) i would have given you if i had seen you guys. i really hope everyone had a grrrrreat time hanging with the dinosaurs, looking at fine art while dining on delish persian food. i almost forgot the biggest thank you to the museum for letting us take over for the day... i'll never forget it! ![]() |

more summer fun
since school starts monday, i wanted to share some other cool, awesome, fun things i did this summer. so in no particular order here they are...
i got to hand feed a giraffe... how cool is that!!! i was a lil nervous at first, but they were so sweet, gentle & cute. poor mommy couldn't get the picture fast enough so that's my hand at the bottom, right after he took the lettuce. isn't he beautiful, i would feed them all day if i could, i just love them!

every time we drive to nonie's we always say "hi" & "bye" to sam, but we finally stopped, got out & said "hi" to sam in person... it was so cool to see him up close. did you know he's 77 feet tall & the statue of liberty is 111 feet tall?!
we found the most amazing snoball place... ever!!! they have over 20 flavors to choose from & living in texas that is the most perfect treat on these hot summer days! they are known for there new orleans style shaved ice. i get tutti frutti, livi gets blue coconut, mommy get vanilla cream aka a "mont blanc" & daddy gets root beer with cream. it's attached to the best mexican food restaurant ever, so we go for dinner & desert, it's called "bob's taco station"... http://bobstacos.com/index.html. you have to go it's mmm, mmm, good!!!

i got bangs...yay!!! finally, i've always wanted them & now i have them. mommy is a lil confused because mostly i put them back in a clip, but i like them & that's all that matters!
we found the coolest place ever called "jallopy joes" & they make over 40 kind of delish popcorn. we tried almost all of the flavors, they were sooooo good & we bought tons of it because they're 4 hours away from us. we even got to see how they make the popcorn, we were there for a long time having the time of our life. so if you're ever in gun barrel city, you have to go visit tonya & get some popcorn. my favorites are black berry, cotton candy, pb&j, white chocolate oreo, loaded baked potato & well really all of them. she also delivers all over so here's her website so you can check out "jalopy joes"... http://www.jalopyjoespopcorn.com/
every year a friend of ours goes to greece & this year she saw that everyone was wearing these really cool bracelets. while she was there she learned how to make them, so when she came home she could make them too. so now her and some older students are selling them for $4 and are helping raise money for children with cancer and down syndrome at st. judes hospital. my whole family has already bought a bunch, but i bought special ones with the same colors for livi & i for livi's birthday present. every time we drive to nonie's we always say "hi" & "bye" to sam, but we finally stopped, got out & said "hi" to sam in person... it was so cool to see him up close. did you know he's 77 feet tall & the statue of liberty is 111 feet tall?!

so this summer the hot new craze has been feathers in your hair & i really wanted some. so daddy being daddy got more excited than all of us & learned how to do it himself & now wants to go into the hair feather extension business. so one night, we all lined up, took turns at being daddy's guinea pigs & we have to say he did a fabulous job. livi got a blue feather, i got pink & a black/white striped feathers & mommy got one of all three. so now it's on to ordering more supplies & having a feather party!!!

meet the teacher night
tonight i got to go back to my school for a lil bit & meet my 1st grade teacher (ms. chu) & see my new classroom. i loooooove my teacher she is so pretty, nice and smart! guess what in her classroom we're going to be starting a recycling project for the whole year, can you say it's meant to be that i'm in her classroom... we both want to save the earth! i got sit at my desk & put all my school supplies away.. i am soooooo super duper excited for school to start on monday...whoo hoo!!! my classroom is really big, my favorite part is where ms. chu made a lil library for us & it's decorated like a dr. suess book. another on of my favorite things is i have my very own desk with my name on & it's much bigger than my desk from last year...i can't wait to sit there & do work! another thing i'm really happy about is i'll have a few of my friends from mrs. handy's class in ms. chu's class with me... yay! it was so much fun saying "hi" to all my friends again, my outclass teachers & of course going by to give mrs. handy a special hug! i can't wait to be back at school & learn all sorts of new things. monday can't come soon enough, i'm ready to be a big 1st grader & meet the rest of my new friends & all the adventures that await us.

looking up at a tree
well I finished my last piece for my "en plein air" series. it was a completely different way of doing art for me, but I really enjoyed it. for my last piece we went outside & sat under a huge tree (got comfy on really cool rice bags, kicked off my shoes & had a snack) then we drew what we saw when we looked up at it. one of my favorite things to draw, paint or sketch is trees, but i never thought to look at them from this angle. i had no idea how my piece was going to turn out, but i was excited to find out. when it came time to paint, i thought ms. marjon had lost her marbles when she wanted me to paint almost all of my canvas green, but she's the teacher so she knows best. then when i really started with all the details (which was more than i had bargained for) i saw why she had me do that & thank goodness i listened because i would still be working on making all the leaves. i'm very happy with how my piece turned out & it really made me slow down to look at things from all angles because you never know what you might miss!!!
