the sweet boutique

i'm sure you've heard us talk about our most favorite dessert place ever... the sweet boutique! well we go there so much that we've gotten to know the owner pretty well, her name is ms.christine & she makes the most magical creations you've ever tasted, smelt or seen! mommy & i were in there a few weeks ago having a special treat when christine said that someday i should come in to decorate a cake & she would bring her daughter in too because she knew we would get along great. well today was that day & we had the best time ever, we felt like real live fancy cake decorators! madi (ms.christine's daughter) & i became fast friends & had a blast picking out fondant color combinations for our cakes & ways to decorate our them. ms.christine had made up about 10 colors of fondant for us to play/create/have fun with. the major thing i learned is fondant letters are really really hard, i was going to try to do a word cake but then i decided shapes were more fun & easier. i really loved getting my hands "dirty", did you know when you work with fondant you put shortening on your hands like lotion so the fondant doesn't stick to you... i was super duper greasy, it was awesome! my favorite thing was getting creative with the fondant, i started mixing colors & making "marble" (that's a professional term) patterns. ms.christine was very impressed that i was thinking "out of the box" & coming up with so many ideas. we got to decorate our cakes in the middle of the shop where christine decorates her cakes & all the customers that came got to see what we were creating & thought our cakes were beautiful! all the staff there were super great too, they would give us tips & tell us how great we were doing.  after about 2 hrs of decorating (playing) we decided our cakes couldn't be more perfect & we were done! ms. christine was so proud of us that she said we would have to come back again to try cupcakes or cake pops... whoo hoo, i can't wait!  if you have time you have to check out the sweet boutique's website & see how amazing everything is there... http://www.tsbcakes.com/!
isn't she cute

this is my favorite shape, i love all the colors in it

daddy's dream guitar

for a really really REALLY long time daddy has always wanted his very own guitar to have & learn how to play songs for us (livi & i) to sing to. well for christmas mommy talked to everyone in the family & we all gave him either gift cards to guitar center or cash to make his dream come true! daddy has been window shopping & doing tons of research for a while. there was this one really special "mitchell" guitar that is a limited edition made with exotic ash wood that is sooooooo beautiful to your eyes & ears!!!  so yesterday we all piled in the car to go get that amazing guitar & daddy was so, so, so excited, he didn't know what to do with himself. when it was time to take our latest member of the family home, daddy buckled his new beautiful "girl" in the front seat & mommy got kicked to the backseat... that was funny! well you can imagine how the rest of our night went, daddy learning how to tune his guitar & he's now mastered "e" minor, he also keeps us (mommy) up till all hours with online guitar lessons! he's already picked out the 1st 3 songs he's going to learn for livi, mommy & me, but he won't tell us what they are. he's going to surprise us with them once he's learned them, hopefully we'll know the song he's playing... wish us luck!

our christmas

this year we stayed home for the 1st time ever for christmas & i loved it. on christmas eve nonie, helpa & holly drove down to stay for a few days. that afternoon momo & tia liz came over to so we could all be together to have a huge christmas eve feast. it was our first time hosting such a big meal & a holiday so mommy & daddy were a wee bit nervous, but everything was amazing!!! then we opened up momo & tia liz's gifts then we went to church for a beautiful christmas eve service with lots of christmas carols. when we got home it was time to put out santa's milk & cookies with a special treat for the reindeer & it was off to bed! mommy read us lots of christmas stories then we sang "happy birthday" to Jesus & then we promised mommy & daddy we wouldn't get out of bed (i only got up once this year, i was pretty proud of myself.) when we woke up it was time for the craziness to begin... whoo hoo, it was fun! here are some pictures of our christmas celebrations...

christmas shopping

the other day mommy took livi & i shopping at the dollar store (everything in there only cost $1) to buy presents for our family. so as soon as we were through the door mommy handed livi & i each a basket & told us "to have fun" & boy did we ever! i went one way while mommy & livi went the other (livi needed mommy to hold the basket after a while), but every time livi found something she had to come running/screaming through the store to show me! the one rule we made was that mommy wasn't able to say one word about what we picked out because this is about what we wanted to buy & she didn't (isn't it amazing)! when it was time to check out mommy couldn't believe all the things i had picked out & then when she saw the total she really couldn't believe it because she said "i don't think anyone has ever spent so much in a dollar store!" when we got home i insisted on wrapping all my presents without any help, it took me almost 3 hours!!! wrapping is not an easy thing to do, i tell ya i won't do that again... jeez! i am very proud of myself though, i stuck it out & the presents look fantastic! the most important thing is livi & i had a great time & everything we bought came from the bottom of our hearts, we can't wait to pass them out on christmas... yay!

dear santa

mommy & i sat down yesterday to write a very berry important letter...a letter to santa claus. i told him all of the things i really wanted & i even asked for my 2 front teeth because i still don't have them. as i was ending the letter it hit me- livi only knows how to write certain letters so she can't write to santa what she wants... so how in the world is santa going to know what to bring her. i asked mommy if it was ok if i wrote santa for livi, she said of course.  after my letter was written, it was time to put it in a very special envelope covered in stickers so santa would know it's from me. i asked mommy to take it to the stamp place to make sure it got taken care with the special stamps that go all the way to the north pole & then it'll be sent on its way. i can't wait for santa to get it!!!

our pretty christmas lights

look at all of daddy's hard work, doesn't it look grrreat?
every year daddy looks forward to putting up our christmas lights because he loves setting up his santa with the missing britches & every year it gets a lil closer to the sidewalk so nobody can miss seeing him
(this makes mommy cringe)! don't you wish you lived next door to us so you could visit santa every night, isn't he wonderful? my favorite thing daddy did this year was put out little santa in the bird bath so when the birds take a bath they can tell santa what they want for christmas too. i hope santa sees our house & loves it to & doesn't mind his missing britches.

spoon nose

look what we taught livi how to do, you can definitely say she's in the right family. as the old saying goes "families are like fudge- mostly sweet with a few nuts",  well i think we're all nutty... ha ha ha.

candy cane crunch

it's that time of year to make my famous candy cane crunch...nummy. the reciepe for my candy cane crunch is so easy peasy even livi can make it. enjoy & have fun!!!
all you need is:
30 mini candy canes
12 ounces vanilla candy coating broken into pieces
1. unwrap candy canes, & place in a zip-top freezer bag. seal bag, removing as much air as you can. wrap the bag in a kitchen towel, & crush candies using a rolling pin or a wooden hammer.
2. place candy coating in a big microwave-safe bowl; microwave at HIGH 1min & 30 sec or until coating looks like it's just beginning to melt. stir candy coating until smooth. stir in crushed candy canes.
3. spread mixture evenly onto a 15x10 inch jelly-roll pan lined with wax paper. chill in the refrigerator 30 mins or until candy is firm; break into pieces & enjoy!
store in an airtight container up to 1 month. makes 1 pound of candy.

town center

the thing that is most important to me, the thing i love more than anything is family time! daddy works real hard, so when we're all together we always make the most of the time. christmas time is my favorite time of the year because we have so many family traditions that we do every year as a family. last night we went to town center to see the big christmas tree & have hot cocoa as we danced around it! we love sitting in the window at starbucks people watching & making new friends. once we're warm & toasty form the hot cocoa we go outside to run/dance around the tree, it's so fun. last night they even had a santa with his band singing christmas songs, we loved it! usually we always take a horse drawn carriage around the center, but the horses weren't there (i guess they went on vacation) this year. so instead livi decided we needed to stop off & have some chocolate ice cream... yes, it was freezing outside, but one never argues with livi or ice cream. then it was off to listen to some more rockin' santa & more fun. i even met the sweetest bull dog to love on, (mommy & i really want a french bulldog) he was handing out free kisses. i can't wait to go back next year for more fun, hot cocoa & chocolate ice cream!

the polar express

this whole week at school all the 1st graders have been talking about is the "polar express" & it's been so fun! we made suitcases to travel with & we got to decorate them anyway we wanted & passports. we've been traveling to different classrooms & learning about different holiday traditions all over the world, it's so neat! i had no idea there were so many places & different ways to celebrate the holidays. today we got to come to school in our jammies, robe & slippies to travel to the north pole... how awesome is that? we even got a train ticket with our name on it to make sure we really truly believed in the magic of christmas so we were allowed on the train. when we got there we had ice cold chocolate milk (it was to hot for cocoa, it was 80 degrees today) & we read the "polar express" book. we even got a necklace with a bell on it & only the people you really truly believe in christmas can hear the bell. my teacher still can't hear, but we still have one more day to work on it with her... come on, everybody believes in christmas! then tomorrow we all get to watch the movie... yay! talk about the perfect way to lead up to our winter break!

livi's christmas program

tonight was livi's big mdo christmas program & she did amazing!!! we were a lil nervous because livi was having a rough time with it, she's not a fan of loud noises, new things, lots of people or being the center of attention... those were all in attendance tonight!  they've been practicing for weeks & you can tell because all the children were so wonderful tonight. they knew all the songs & moves that went with them, they were so super cute! like i said they've been practicing for weeks & the first time they were on stage, livi cried the whole time but as the weeks went on she did much better.  tonight was going to be a whole new ball game though because they had an audience... a really big one! last week mommy took her shopping to buy a special outfit for the program which livi loved, but livi said it had to go with her cowboy boots because they help make her brave! the most important thing we wanted for livi was for her to feel comfortable enough to stay on the stage for the entire program (she had 5 songs to sing) with hopefully no tears & running off the stage to us. i'm so proud to say not only did she stay on the stage , but there was no tears, some smiles & even a little singing... yay! her favorite song was jingle bells, she was so cute shaking her bells & singing her heart out! the best part of the whole night was seeing her face light up at the end & knowing she did it, she made it through the whole thing! we were so proud of her, we were screaming & jumping up & down (of course mommy shed a few tears of pride) for her. we know how hard it was for her to go through it & she proved to us once again what a tough cookie she is! see, those cowboy boots work every time!
look at those smiles of pride

cinnamon applesauce ornaments

every year we love to make our own homemade ornaments to give to family, friends & teachers. this year mommy found this recipe for cinnamon applesauce ornaments & we thought we have to try them because nothing smells more like christmas than cinnamon! these ornaments can be hung from the christmas tree, used to decorate packages, strung together to make a beautifully scented garland, or as great holiday gifts.
this recipe makes 12 – 14 medium sized cinnamon applesauce ornaments. it takes about 15 minutes to make and knead the dough, and 2 1/2 hours to bake, for a total time of 2 hours, 45 minutes. oh yeah, be prepared to get a wee bit messy!

ingredients:
1 cup cinnamon
1 tbsp ground cloves
1 tbsp nutmeg
3/4 applesauce
how to make cinnamon applesauce ornaments:
preheat oven to 150°.
in medium bowl, combine cinnamon, cloves & nutmeg.
add applesauce, stir to combine.
work the dough with your hands for 3 or 4 minutes until dough is smooth and ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
if the dough is a little crumbly, add a tablespoon of applesauce at a time to it until it is smooth and a bit sticky.
roll out dough to 1/3 inch thickness. It will be sticky, so be careful with it. You can use cinnamon like flour on your pin and rolling surface to stop it from sticking.
cut dough with cookie cutters. simple shapes like hearts, bells, trees and gingermen are easier to work with than cutters with complicated shapes.
using straw make small hole in top of ornament.
bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 150 degrees for 2 1/2 hours
remove from the cookie sheet and cool on a wire rack.
decorate as desired. (we used glitter glue to make them sparkly)
loop a ribbon through the top.
voila, festive heavenly smelling ornaments to last the whole holiday season!
