our street

well we're still at tia' liz's house waiting for the levee to breech in our neighborhood, but we're still high & dry... yay! they're still saying the bravos river will hit an all time high so we've been pretty nervous waiting it out. they were predicting it was going to go to 59 ft but now they're saying 56 ft. if all goes well, we'll be moving back into our house saturday! but here are some pictures of the entrance into our section of the neighborhood, its underwater & closed off. there's also a few pics of the bayou in our backyard, it's pretty high!!!

there was a sinkhole starting behind pool 2, but over a hundred people showed up (including daddy) filled over a 1,000 sandbags to help fix it... yay.

GRHS Shelter

After finding out George Ranch High School was opening up as a shelter for those evacuated from all the flooding due to Hurricane Harvey we had to go help in any way we could. We were so thankful that this is the one place we can actually drive to still at this time. We went to donate items with some sweet neighbors & ended up volunteering for a while as well. The Red Cross had not arrived yet & everything was being arranged/taken care of/whipped into shape by all the awesome selfless teachers at the high school. When we walked in we were completely overwhelmed by all the donations that our community had pulled together in such a short time. All the volunteers that were there turning the high school into a shelter in a short time & making sure that all necessities would be met by the time evacuees started arriving by 6pm... it was amazing. It was also a needed pick me up that mommy, daddy & i needed in all this sadness surrounding us right now. Friends if you can & only if you can safely, please step away from the news & Facebook even if it's just for an hour. There are so many shelters that need help right now & I know GRHS would love to have some extra hands.

evacuating

Today was supposed to be the 1st day of school, but with Hurricane Harvey's visit it's been delayed until after Labor Day. Due to the levee near our house about to breach & a leak inside our house... Instead we are evacuating to Tia Liz's house which is just a few blocks away but still 3 feet higher. We are so blessed where we are compared to everything that is happening around us. We're nervous but still smiling. To be on the safe side we lifted everything we could to knee height because worst case scenario we could get up to 2 feet of water in the house. Houston, stay strong & stay safe.

hurricane harvey

well hurricane harvey has hit in corpus christi & it's been very crazy & scary. we can't believe everything we're seeing on the news. as of now we're safe, but we're still waiting for all the rain to hit us & there's a small chance our neighborhood could flood. to take our mind off of everything we go to measure the bayou right behind our house a few times a day to see how full it's getting. in between rain downpours we go out to jump in puddles. our neighbor's had some friends over that had puppies with them so we had a puppy party. one of the bad things is all the tornado warnings, they go off almost every 30 mins it seems. we haven't been getting much sleep, but they're not as scary to go through when you're with your friends. livi made brownies for us & any neighbors that needed a little chocolate love from all the stress. we've also been having tons of slime gatherings with our neighbors. so while it's been unnerving we've been surrounded by the best people & it's made everything a little less scary. we're not going to post any pictures of all the devastation because it's all over the news & you can go anywhere to see it.

welcome back longhorns

tonight was my orientation at my new junior high & it was soooooooo overwhelming walking through those doors. this school seems so much bigger than my middle school is so big & i'm terrified i'm going to get lost! instead of having one gym, we have 2. a big gym & a small gym!!! we have lockers! please pray for me when it comes to figuring out the lockers, locks & i don't get along so well. the school is 2 stories! all the 7th graders stay on the bottom floor, except if you're taking a language then you go upstairs for that. i'll be going upstairs for spanish.... ahhhh!!!! the library is so pretty & computer lab is really nice! honestly it's the prettiest school we've ever seen, but i'm really scared about how lost i am in it. when mommy, livi & i were walking out the door to get in the car & i freaked out because i couldn't remember where anything was. so we walked through it all again until i felt more comfortable. i know i'll get the hang of it but right now... oh my goodness! i'm taking dance again & i'm super excited about that. i'm in all Pre AP/GT classes again.  i know i'm very overwhelmed with all these changes & i'm super duper nervous, but we all believe that this is going to be an amazing year & it all starts on monday.

meet the teacher

this afternoon livi got to go back to her school for a lil bit & meet her 3rd grade teacher (mrs. love) & see her new classroom. livi's so happy she got mrs. love for her teacher because she really wanted her... yay!  she really loooooove her because she is so pretty, sweet, nice, warm and is very smart!  livi got to see her desk & put all her school supplies away.. she's soooooo super duper excited for school to start on monday...whoo hoo!!! livi can't believe all the subject boards that are on the walls, she knows they'll all be super prepared. livi is a little bummed because all the gifted & talented students were split into 3 glasses instead of all being together again. so she doesn't have any of friends in her class, but she knows it'll give her more chances to make new ones.  she had so much fun saying "hi" to all her friends again & her outclass teachers. she can't wait to be back at school & learn all sorts of new things. monday can't come soon enough, livi is ready to be a big 3rd grader & meet the rest of her new friends & all the adventures that await her.
we found out on the last day pf school last year that livi's g/t facilitator was leaving to become a art teacher at a new school in another district. livi was so sad because she loved mrs. bone & we were all close to her. well when we were walking the halls i saw mrs. matthys, my 6th grade english teacher who i loved. of course i had to go say hi & fine out what she was doing livi's school. guess what... she's going to be the new g/t teacher... yay! livi knows how great i think mrs. matthys is so now she feels so much better about this year. and i feel good because i know what great hands livi will be in.
one of mrs. love's favorite thing is gummy bears & of course once we read that we had to whip something up to take with us for meet the teacher. mrs. love loved them & was so happy that livi was so thoughtful! they have a special place on her desk for her to dip into whenever she needs a little treat.

the great american solar eclipse

Today skies darkened from Oregon to South Carolina in the first total solar eclipse visible from coast to coast across the United States in 99 years. A total solar eclipse occurs when the disk of the moon appears to completely cover the disk of the sun in the sky. The fact that total solar eclipses occur at all is a quirk of cosmic geometry. The moon orbits an average of 239,000 miles (385,000 kilometers) from Earth — just the right distance to seem the same size in the sky as the much-larger sun. In 2024, a total solar eclipse will darken the skies above Mexico and Texas, up through the Midwest and northeastern U.S. So we'll have an even better few of the eclipse.
