more fun halloween pictures

ohhhhh, spooky spider webs
daddy playing in the graves
"i got candy because i'm a good witch, see"
hi ho, hi ho off for more candy we go
trick or treating at my best friend's house
beware of the 3 witches
mmm, mmm, mmm candy
the funniest picture of the night goes to daddy! he couldn't get all his of his face paint off because it was stuck in his hair. it was one of the funniest things we've ever seen, i don't know the last time we laughed so hard!

trick or treat

When witches go riding,
and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,
‘tis near Halloween.

choose to be drug & bully free

at school they have designated theme days on fridays during the month of october in honor of drug abuse prevention and national bullying prevention month.  today is "pajama day", so we get to wear sleepwear to remind us to "wake up to drug abuse!" we'll also wear red ribbons to show our support for drug awareness & prevention. i have to say i had so much fun getting ready for school this morning, putting on my spooky halloween jammies & i had mommy put piggies (pig tails) in my hair...it was grrreat. livi is so silly as soon as she saw my piggies she had to have some to & when it came to taking pictures she was right next to me posing along...ha ha ha!!

fun fall & halloween recipes

in our house we get so excited when fall time rolls around, we love anything to do with pumpkins & chocolate! we love to find new things to bake & recreate our favorite ones from other years. this year we wanted to share some fun easy fall & halloween recipes with you! so go have some fun in the kitchen & enjoy...

melted witch puddles:

  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 4 drops yellow food coloring
  • 1-1/2 cups flaked coconut
  • 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 6 tablespoons shortening, divided
  • 36 chocolate cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies
  • 36 Bugles
  • 4 cups vanilla or white chips
  • 36 pretzel sticks
  • In a large resealable plastic bag, combine water and food coloring; add coconut. Seal bag and shake to tint coconut; set aside. In a microwave, melt chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons shortening; stir until smooth.
  • For witches' hats, place about 1/3 cup chocolate mixture in a resealable plastic bag; cut a small hole in a corner of bag. Pipe a small amount of chocolate on a cookie. Dip a Bugle in some of the remaining chocolate; allow excess to drip off. Position over chocolate on cookie, forming a witch's hat. Set on waxed paper to dry. Repeat with remaining chocolate, Bugles and cookies.
  • For puddles, melt vanilla chips and the remaining shortening; stir until smooth. Place mixture in a large heavy-duty resealable plastic bag; cut a small hole in a corner of bag. Pipe mixture into the shape of a puddle onto waxed paper-lined baking sheets.
  • Immediately place a witch's hat on the puddle. Place a pretzel stick alongside the hat; sprinkle reserved tinted coconut at the end of the pretzel stick. Repeat with remaining puddles, hats and brooms. Chill for 15 minutes or until set. Store in an airtight container.

    dewberry farm

today we took our annual trip to dewberry farm to pick out the most special pumpkin of them all to carve. check out our grrrrrrreat time...

we had to consult our map 1st thing, to make sure we stopped off at all our favorite things!

having fun in the hay stack!
of course we had to get our faces painted. livi got a piggy & i got halloween pumpkins!

then it was on to the petting zoo with a quick stop to say "hi" to our favorite metal pig.

next it was on to playing on rollar slides, cow trains & jumping off hay mountains.

finally it was all about the pumpkin. checking out all the shapes, sizes & colors they come in & deciding which ones would be coming home with us. livi loves the itty bitty pumpkins, we couldn't drag her away from them... we ended up taking 8 of them home.
then it was time to head home & decide what to carve into our pumpkin. since daddy is the master at carving, livi, mommy & i are the masters at gutting & cleaning the pumpkin... someone had to do it!

so are you ready to see our fabulous pumpkin?
livi & i got to pick this year & we fell in love with this cat with magical wings when we saw it. mommy & daddy keep telling us it's a bat, but we know better... anything can happen when it's halloween!

    livi's 1st field trip

today was livi's 1st field trip at mdo with her class & they went to a pumpkin patch at sugar land's first methodist church. they had pumpkins in all sizes and prices, & all proceeds benefit the mission and ministry of One Voice Student Choir. they had so much fun... they had a halloween story time, they got to see a pumpkin cut in half with all the seeds still inside & then they got to roam the whole pumpkin patch. livi picked out the smallest pumpkin she could find to take home, it's so cute & funny looking. she also picked out pumpkins for mommy & i, they look like stars... they're so neat! this saturday we'll be going on our annual family trip to the pumpkin patch & now that we have a pumpkin expert (livi) in the family, i know we'll pick the perfect one.

    candy corn mix

since halloween is right around the corner, livi & i decided our teachers needed a lil treat to know how special they are to us. so we made them candy corn mix & it is so delish, it's sweet & salty all together... it's perfect! it's the easiest thing we've ever made, so if you need a special treat to make you should try this!
    ingredients:
1 cup candy corn (we use the autumn blend)
    1 cup salted peanuts
1 cup milk chocolate m&m's (we use the autumn blend)
then you just mix it up & it's ready to go!
for our teachers we got really cute halloween bags & ribbon, then we made spooky name tags for them. i hope they love their treats if not we'll have to pull a scary trick on them... just kidding.
