shrine circus

last night we celebrated my good friend, parker's birthday by going to the shrine circus. i haven't been to the circus since i was 3 & i don't remember much of it expect laughing at the elephants pooping... so i was excited to go to have more memories. we saw lots of animals including tigers jumping through rings of fire. crazy people riding their motorcycles in the globe of death, dare devils doing incredible things on the tightrope, lots of silly & kinda scary clowns, dancing pigs, beautifully amazing acrobats & of course my favorite the elephants. the circus lasted 2 hours & that ringmaster had us at his fingertips the whole time. my pictures aren't the best because i was kinda of far away but i wanted to share anyway.
we had so much fun & then after we all went out for ice cream!

what livi's been up to in GT

kindergarteners have been busy in GT!  they have exploring some of the centers in GT.  they used the osmo, a very cool addition that turns the iPad into an interactive tool.  they also used iPads to play a logic coding game called kodable.  it can be challenging, but the kids did great!  they also used two visual/spatial centers, wedgits and magna blocks, it was so cool seeing their creations!
they also added to their "creative thinking" skills by adding "originality" to their list.  they read the book, "Stephanie's Ponytail" about a girl who just wants to be an original, but everyone keeps copying her!  they then created their own original hairstyles.  some of them were VERY crazy, like livi's had ice cream & ice cream cones for hair!!!

happy earth day

since it is earth day, we thought we would pass on 10 itty bitty tips we can all do that will help stop global warming. we should all work together to make a difference in our world, we all have an impact on earth...lets make it a positive one... (these pictures are a lil old, but the tips still apply)
replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb: (cfl) you can find them out at 1000bulbs.com. three CFBs will save 300 pounds of carbon dioxide!
bring cloth/canvas bags to the market: when the check-out person asks, "paper or plastic?," say, "neither." using your own cloth bag reduces waste and requires no additional energy.
reduce waste: take your lunch in a reusable lunch box instead of a disposable one.
plant a tree: trees suck up CO2 and create clean air for us to breathe. a single tree will absorb a ton (that's 2000+ lbs.) of CO2 over its lifetime.
conserve water: do only full loads of laundry and don't let the water run when you brush your teeth or shave. an open faucet pours 5 gallons of water every 2 minutes.
use refillable bottles for water: bottled water is a huge culprit to having a clean environment. stop buying all of those water bottles that fill up our land-fills. if you need special water, buy a water filter.
buy organic foods as much as possible: the chemicals used in modern agriculture aren't just bad for your body, they also pollute the water supply and are mostly made of petroleum.
walk or ride your bike to work, school and anywhere you can: you'll save one pound of CO2 for every mile you don't drive!
be sure you're recycling at home: you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide a year by recycling half of the waste your household generates.
spread the word: tell everyone all the things above. tell your friends, family, relatives, coworkers, and more. post it on forums, message boards, and blogs. if even ten out of a hundred listen to you, and one of that ten actually does something, it makes a difference!
here's some awesome websites to check out for more ideas how you can help save our earth...

paint drip flower pots

it's almost summer vacation & that means our good friends at "Lunches of Love" are about to go through their busiest time of the year. "LoL is a non-profit organization that is designed to help end childhood hunger in richmond-rosenberg by providing children in need a free nutritious sack lunch during extended school holidays & weekends. many children living in families facing food insecurity rely on school lunch as their only meal of the day. Lunches of Love helps fill the gap during extended school holidays (christmas break, spring break & summer vacation). LoL offers children in need a nutritious sack lunch & snack. in addition, the also sends home child friendly, non-perishable, vitamin fortified food for the weekend to those in need." we volunteer with them a lot because we think what they do is AWESOME! we love being able to help out in any way we can & we want be a part of their summer sponsorship like last year which is donating $50 to feed a child for the entire summer. so of course right now we're trying to raise $100 so can feed 2 children!!! so we're super excited to share that we're selling these amazing drip paint flower pots that we made for $5 each. we're getting an earlier start this year because there is only a little over 7 weeks until school is out! please let us know if you'd like to purchase one & we can use your favorite colors to make you your own special pot or you're more than welcome to buy one of the ones we've already made! these beautiful flower pots are 4 inches & their perfect to show off your spring plantings! thank you so much & have a super duper awesome day!  remember as we always say any little bit helps in your community as long as you're doing something that's all that matters! to find out more about this wonderful organization please click here!

spring concert

about a months ago i was chosen along with 48 (out of over 300) other 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students to perform in the spring concert.  i felt so honored that my music teacher picked me again (last year i was to sick to perform) as a serious musician to learn over 5 songs to perform on the recorder. we were learning songs from all genres & this is the concert everyone looks forward to all year long. i was even picked to be one of the few that had a singing part! starting in march we started having rehearsals once a week that lasted an hour & a half so we'd be more than ready to impress the whole school & all the parents!
livi really wanted to wear something special for my concert & this is what she decided on. she really knows how to rock 3 looks in one!

not a box

here's an update on one of the things livi has been working on in her G/T class. they read the book "not a box" to get their creative juices flowing, then after they decided to make their own animated "not a stick." it was so cool to see what everyone came up with & what wonderful imaginations livi & her friends have. to see it you can click on the link below & scroll down to kindergarten...

update on daddy's fire fighter academy

i know it's been a while & we wanted to give you an update on dadd's fire fighter academy. after 5 grueling, hard, extreme, crazy demanding, exciting, difficult, tiring & extreme weeks he had to stop due to some health issues that came up.
daddy ended up coming down with this really rare thing called rhabdomyolysis which is a "serious syndrome due to a direct or indirect muscle injury. it results from the death of muscle fibers & releases of their contents into the bloodstream. this can lead to complications such as kidney failure." for four weeks daddy had to go to the doctor every week to have his blood drawn to make sure is levels were going down ok. he even had to go the emergency room to get fluids & other stuff!
the doctors wanted him to take it easy for 3 months to let his body rest & redo some tests. don't worry he's doing better now & is planning on rejoining the fire fighter academy in august. livi & i are jogging with him in the evenings to slowly get him to where he can start working out again.
he loved everything he saw, practiced, learned, mastered & was at the top of his class.
we were all sad when it daddy had to turn in his gear, but we know he'll be getting it back soon so that makes it better.
