this kiva team is signing off

today was my kiva team's last day of broadcasting the news for this school year. i can't believe this year is almost over & i'm so glad that i had this experience. it was worth getting up super extra early on my 3 week rotations & hanging out with these fun people to bring the news to our school. we had a lot of laughs & learned more about each other & ourselves. thank you to my kiva team & mrs. press & mrs. reaves for believing in us & putting up with our silliness.

reflection

when you get in 5th grade after the christmas break you can apply to be in art club. i've been wanting to be in art club since 3rd grade! so when i finally had the application in my hand, i couldn't believe it was my time to do this. in the application you had to do a drawing & write why you love art, what it means to you & why you wanted to be in art club. out of all the 5th graders that applied 15 were accepted & i was one of them... yay! so every thursday we meet after school & work on different projects like tie-dyeing, molding clay pieces & this painting that i did! i love it so much & i'm so proud of it. it's called "reflection" & it's inspired of a girl taking a picture of seattle's amazing landscape. it's displayed in the art hallway with all the other art club pieces & it makes me smile every time i walk down the hallway & see it!

livi's field trip to the natural museum of science

all the 1st grade classes have been learning about the metamorphosis of the butterfly. in every classroom they have a "butterfly tree" where they can watch it happening live! it's so cool, i'm jealous that get to do something so amazing. don't worry livi's teacher is so sweet, she lets me come by anytime to see what is going on.
so to follow through with learning about the butterfly metamorphosis the 1st grade field trip is visiting the the cockrell butterfly center at the houston museum of natural science! so last thursday that's where all the 1st graders got to go! they got to walk through a living butterfly habitat, where they marveled at spectacular live & preserved specimens of some of the world's largest & weirdest anthropoids, & they enjoyed interactive games & quizzes. some of the kids were a little nervous about all the flying butterfly, but livi was there to walk them through it! of course they had to say hi to  the iguana that hangs out with all the beautiful butterflies!
from the butterfly exhibit the walked over to the wortham giant screen theatre which is a 3d imax theatre that has a 60'x80' foot screen. they got to see "tiny giants" which is about day in the life of a scorpion mouse & a chipmunk. it was a story of drama, danger & courage, of insight & revelation, a journey to discover & understand a new & fascinating natural history.
after that it was time for lunch, talking to our friends about what they thought of everything & then back on the bus to head back to school!

daddy's new bike

yay yay yay! daddy, finally got a new bike so the three of us can go bike riding together! we couldn't wait to break it in last nigh, so we all went to the school up the street to ride around. daddy even convinced mommy to hop on the handle bars for a quick spin... that was hysterical! daddy showed us some new bmx tricks & we just had a blast being able to ride together! we would bike in circles, on the grass, up & down curbs. now we just have to get mommy a bike, then we'll be complete!

happy earth day

since it is earth day, we thought we would pass on 10 itty bitty tips we can all do that will help stop global warming. we should all work together to make a difference in our world, we all have an impact on earth...lets make it a positive one... (these pictures are a lil old, but the tips still apply)
replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb: (cfl) you can find them out at 1000bulbs.com. three CFBs will save 300 pounds of carbon dioxide!
bring cloth/canvas bags to the market: when the check-out person asks, "paper or plastic?," say, "neither." using your own cloth bag reduces waste and requires no additional energy.
reduce waste: take your lunch in a reusable lunch box instead of a disposable one.
plant a tree: trees suck up CO2 and create clean air for us to breathe. a single tree will absorb a ton (that's 2000+ lbs.) of CO2 over its lifetime.
conserve water: do only full loads of laundry and don't let the water run when you brush your teeth or shave. an open faucet pours 5 gallons of water every 2 minutes.
use refillable bottles for water: bottled water is a huge culprit to having a clean environment. stop buying all of those water bottles that fill up our land-fills. if you need special water, buy a water filter.
buy organic foods as much as possible: the chemicals used in modern agriculture aren't just bad for your body, they also pollute the water supply and are mostly made of petroleum.
walk or ride your bike to work, school and anywhere you can: you'll save one pound of CO2 for every mile you don't drive!
be sure you're recycling at home: you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide a year by recycling half of the waste your household generates.
spread the word: tell everyone all the things above. tell your friends, family, relatives, coworkers, and more. post it on forums, message boards, and blogs. if even ten out of a hundred listen to you, and one of that ten actually does something, it makes a difference!
here's some awesome websites to check out for more ideas how you can help save our earth...

lost creek park

last saturday daddy took us to lost creek park which has a bmx track to really learn some skills!!! we had the best time ever, it was so awesome! it took a while to get used to the hills, bumps & learning to bike standing up instead of sitting. daddy was behind us at first when we were going up or down the big hills in case we needed help, but it didn't take long until we had left him in our dust.
we were only there for an hour but we were exhausted & muddy by the end of it. we can't wait until we can go again & for daddy to teach us more trick moves!!!
