at livi's school (shady oak) they're super excited to be taking part again in operation christmas child, a project of samaritan's purse, a world wide christian relief & evangelism ministry led by franklin graham. the mission of operation christmas child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the good news of Jesus Christ. people all around the country are filling shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, hygiene items, candy & other gifts. these boxes are then delivered to needy children around the world. since 1993 more than 85 million boxes have been delivered to children in over 130 countries across the globe! at school livi & her friends got to watch a short video about operation christmas child & all the boys & girls who received shoe boxes last year. after the video livi was so excited to get on board & go shopping. her excitement was so contagious that i decided to do a box too! she picked to have her shoebox delivered to a little boy aged 2-4, she picked a boy because she doesn't have a brother & doing this makes her feel like she does! i picked a little girl aged 5-9 because she will be my friend from afar. so off to the dollar store livi & i went, livi picked out coloring books, crayons, a book, a tooth brush with toothpaste, a spiderman book, a ball, a funny noise maker, lots of play dinosaurs, a fun robot to decorate, lots of toy cars, monster socks & a stuffed animal dinosaur. she had the best time ever, knowing how she was giving someone a christmas that they might not have had. i picked out a journal with markers, paper dolls, a slinky, a glow in the dark wand, the cutest hello kitty toothbrush, a really cool hairbrush, polka dot socks, a stuffed teddy bear, fancy pony tail holders, lip gloss, some art things & i also made her 2 different kinds of friendship bracelets. we also received a form to fill out that asked who we are, our age & where we live to include in our boxes so our friend who receives them will know a little bit about us. we're really excited because an email will be sent to us in january or february with the delivery location of our shoe boxes & hopefully the little boy & little girl who received our boxes will write to us to tell us about where he lives! last year livi's box went all the way to the phillipines... wow! after we packed up our boxes we decorated them with tons of christmas stickers so our new friends won't be ables to see inside their christmas boxes & will be surprised! this friday at shady oak all the shoe boxes will be turned in & they will have a special dedication service for the boxes. this is such a wonderful way to celebrate the meaning of christmas & we're so happy we got to work on this project as a family. this is our third year doing this & i know we'll be a part of it for a very very long time! if you would like to know more about operation christmas child please
