we wanted to make a special treat for daddy & his friends for all their hard work over the last month so we decided to make these things called cake balls. these are kinda like cake truffles and are very simple to prepare: bake a cake, mush it up with frosting, roll it into balls, dip it in chocolate & decorate! they are super duper delish! want to make some? here are some step by step instructions...
the recipe makes about 40-50 cake balls.
here's what you will need:
1 (14.25 oz) box cake mix, any flavor
1 (16 oz) tub frosting, any flavor (you will not need all of it)
1 (24 oz) package of almond bark/candy coating (white or chocolate)
sprinkles
bake the cake mix according to package directions. once it’s cool, crumble the cake into a large bowl. place in a large bowl and stir in half of the frosting container. mix with your hands (you will be very messy) until thoroughly combined and thick like a truffle center. mix in additional frosting if necessary.
roll mixture into 1″ balls and place on a cookie sheet. cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for an hour or overnight.
melt chocolate in the microwave per directions on package. insert a toothpick into the flat end of the cake balls & carefully place the cake ball into the candy coating by holding the toothpick and rotating until covered. once covered, remove and softly tap and rotate until the excess chocolate falls off. don’t tap too hard or the cake ball will fall off, too. immediately cover with sprinkles before the chocolate has a chance to set, then slide the cake ball off the toothpick and set on wax paper to harden.
i really hope daddy & his work friends like them, they're made with tons & tons of love! before we packed them up livi & i tried one of course (we had to make sure they were ok) & we thought by far these were the best things we've made to date!!!

yummy!
