pizza friday
almost 2 weeks ago livi came home & told us she really wanted to try buying her lunch. she wanted to look at the school menu & pick a day for her to buy her lunch. we were all in shock!!! so mommy & livi looked at the menu & decided cheese pizza stick would be the safest bet for the first time. she was super scared about standing in line, talking to the lunch lady, knowing what to do, giving the right student id number, walking to her class table with her lunch tray without spilling anything, sitting on the opposite side of the table with the lunch buyers, eating something new, having enough time to eat everything, what if she didn't like & would be hungry for the rest of the day! that was a whole lot to be nervous about, but this was really important for her to do so we asked what would help feel more comfortable doing this & she said for mommy to be there with her. they had a week & five days to do what they could do build up her confidence. one night we went to cici's pizza so livi could practice getting a tray, putting her food on it & carrying her tray with all the stuff on it to the table. she did great & didn't spill a thing!
well today was the day livi's been waiting for... PIZZA FRIDAY & for an extra bonus daddy was off of work so he got to come too! mommy & daddy got there extra early so they would be waiting for livi when she got to the cafeteria. they both got in line with livi & the rest of her lunch buying friends. livi's friends are so super sweet & supportive, they knew it was livi's first time & helped her the whole way through. they showed her where to get her napkin, utensils, milk & how not to get the green beans but the cry baby icee. every couple of feet one of her friends would turn back & make she was ok & didn't have any questions. when the lunch lady asked her what she wanted livi answered her with daddy's help. she was so nervous about the long walk to her table that when it was time to pay with her student id she froze up, but thankfully mrs. peace (her teacher) was right there to help her. after she payed she took a deep breath for her long trek & with each step you could see her concentration get more & more focused. she finally made it & talk about seeing a huge smile that she made to her friends without dropping anything. she ate about half her food & we were so proud of her for trying something new. mommy was prepared with a few of her favorite snacks in her purse for her to nibble on incase her lunch wasn't as good as she was hoping & was still hungry. then it came time for her to line up & put her tray up & she handled like she was a pro.

Livi is just always surprising me, inspiring me, humbling me, teaching me, impressing me. Her normal is always a moving target. There are many normal depending on the person, situation and abilities. Livi is all about pushing her barriers to what she sees as normal for many others, and she is right, it is normal for many others but she is determined to make many of those other people normal her normal. No one says she has to handle her food tray, line of people, food choices, paying like most others. People who know Livi, love Livi and are perfectly willing to go the extra mile to help keep Livi in her comfort zone. Livi is the one pushing, challenging and expanding her comfort zone. She is the one that can see there are things others take as everyday things that are a challenge (sometimes a huge challenge) to her and she at some point decides to take them on. Her time frame, her decision, her courage. She has a wonderful, caring, supportive family and friends for those times but it is her on that stage when it happens. It is Livi that stays on the stage and sings instead of running off and it is Livi that walked with that food tray all the way to her table. I bet her fanny muscles were ready to cramp up, probably could not go to the bathroom for a week until her little butt relaxed, but she did it. I am in awe of her decision to take these things on because she is so right to challenge herself. Everything she accomplishes today will come to benefit her as she gets older and her challenges, options and decisions change again and again. We should all learn from her and embrace our differences so that we can decide which, if any, we should change/strengthen. I am sure we would all find many we could work on to become a better person like Livi does. I certainly think she gets a ton of help from Ella and that Ella set the early example but it is Livi that is working on herself because she is not afraid to question herself and to challenge herself. Thank you guys for supporting my hero.
