feed a friend

for a couple of months now i've been talking to mommy about how i really want to help the homeless, it's just something that sits very heavy in my heart. mommy has sent out tons of emails to all different types of organizations to see if there was any area i could help in, but only two of them said i wasn't to young & they would love my help. feed a friend is a ministry that serves the homeless dinner every night between about 6:30-7:30, they serve between 85-100 people every night... they are amazing please check them out at  http://www.alleyesonmeinc.com/ or  feedafriend.net.  i was so excited when mommy told me about them & couldn't wait till i could serve also. so tonight was my big big night & i was super nervous because i had no idea what to expect, but in my heart i knew i had to go. mommy even helped me with a goal i could have for the night, seeing if i could make one homeless person smile, i told her i would try to get at least 3... i can't even tell you how many smiles i got there was so many! feed a friend sets up tables with lots & lots of food they have prepared (they had quiche & a pasta dish) & they also have bread, cookies & drinks in a club parking lot. that was kind of a surprise, daddy made a joke that "he never thought he would be taking his 6 yr old daughter to a club downtown," it was pretty cool being in the big city though. when we got there it took all i had to get out of the car because i was so scared, (you know when you try something new sometimes it's really hard, like starting kindergarten) i unbuckled my seat belt then i buckled it back, sighed, unbuckled it again, took a deep breath & opened my door. at first i was really freaked out, because there were so many people & some of the people were really dirty & missing teeth & i didn't know if they were going to be nice or not, i was glued to daddy taking it all in. then i realized they're just like me & they were super sweet, funny & ready to eat. finally i got up the nerve & went to the serving table to tell them i was ready to help & off i went to be in charge of pouring drinks (grape juice or pink lemonade). i met a man named tomkat & hung out with him almost the whole time, he was showing me the ropes, he made me feel so comfortable with everything that i was seeing. you know what i found out at the very end... tomkat is homeless & i had no idea. tomkat sleeps under one of the bayou bridges but you would never know that he is homeless, he keeps himself very clean. by the end of dinner time there, i had fallen in love with feed a friend, it is so AMAZING what they do. i can't wait to help again, i wish i could do it every night because i would but mommy, daddy & i are going to sit down & make a schedule of when we can go. i know you've heard me say it before but there are so many people less fortunate than us, so if you can please take the time to reach out in your community, no matter how big or small you give IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
