kylie's prayer

last night we went out to serve with kylie's prayer & love on some good people that were down on their luck. kylie's prayer is a christian ministry dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the homeless of downtown houston that was started with a 5 yr old's (kylie) prayer to help the homeless. now a few yrs later, the last saturday of the month a group of people meet together to help serve kylie's mission to spread the Word and Love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the homeless, through distribution of supplies, food, love, and prayer. the family that started kylie's prayer moved to louisiana a few months ago so our very good friend lori took it over for them & is doing an AMAZING job! it's so wonderful going out with our old friends & helping new friends.

last night was livi's first time coming & she was super nervous all the way there, but when we got there & people started talking to her she got really brave. after a few minutes she was getting mad at mommy & daddy for passing out things & not giving them to her to pass out! she's been wanting to do this for a long time & was very proud of herself for getting out there & not staying seat belted  inside the truck the whole time.

our super wonderful nonie bought a case of girl scout cookies from me when i was selling them & she told us that we could pass out that whole case to the homeless instead of bringing them to her. let me tell you we were the most popular spot last night. a man was so happy to have girl scout cookies again he gave the only dollar he had to us. we tried arguing with him but he would have none of it, he just couldn't believe we were passing out girl scout cookies. daddy also had 2 garbage bags full of t-shirts to pass out in every color you could imagine. all the men out there were so appreciative because they were getting to get shirts in their favorite colors. mommy met a sweet lady named mary who is the same size that she is & mommy was so thankful she brought out some things as well. earlier that day all of mary's belongings had been taken while she was sleeping so she was having to start all over again. she couldn't believe that God had brought mommy to her to help her, she was so so so thankful. mommy promised mary that she'd be back in the same spot next month with more things for her & mary said she'd be there.

i met a man who makes beautiful bouquets out of palm leaves & he made me one of 2 roses intertwined. they were so beautiful & i was so upset that i didn't have anything else to give him. then mommy remembered the dollar bill the man gave to livi for the cookies, well i got that & gave it to him. he started to cry because he was so thankful for that little act of kindness he gave me a hug & kiss on the cheek. that made my whole day seeing that i was able to do that for someone.

after that we still had a few things left to pass out & our friends had brought some toys, books & shoes for children. so we hopped into our cars & drove to star of hope. star of home is a Christ-centered community dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women & their children. i'm so glad we went there because there was so many children there that were in need of things.

there was a very young pregnant woman there wondering if we had any stuffed animals left & the last one had just been passed out. she was so heartbroken because she wanted to have something to give her baby when it was born, well my friend had one stuffed animal that she had taken out of the giveaway pile because she wasn't ready to part with yet like she had thought. well she looked at this young woman & her dad asked her what she wanted to do knowing the internal struggle harley was having. in the end harley decided to give the woman the stuffed animal for her baby, the woman was so moved she wrapped harley in a hug whispering thank you over & over agin while crying. of course that got all of us crying because it was such a wonderful moment. but our favorite moment of the night was there was this beautiful sweet little girl about 3 & she was so excited about the all the books that were there. she kept picking up one book & squealing then going over to the next one. at one point she climbed onto mommy's lap & mommy was reading all the books she had picked out to her. mommy was getting ready to read another one when livi came up & asked if she could read the book to her instead. it was so precious to see the 3 of them in their own little bubble loving on this precious girl who was having the best time ever.

seeing livi being sick to her stomach she was so terrified of what she was going to see out there on the streets to reading books & loving on this sweet girl was amazing to watch. livi can't wait for next month, she loves being able to help in anyway she can.livi & i decided that we'd spend the next month going through all our things to set aside as much as we could to take out with us next month. seeing all the smiles on the children & their parent's faces when they saw stuffed animals, books, clothes & shoes was so heart warming.
