relays

about a month ago in p.e. we had tryouts for our schools annual relay races. every classroom in our school has a girl's team & a boy's team to race against other classes in each grade level. last year i didn't make the team, but i was an alternate in case someone got sick & they couldn't run. well this year i had one of the fastest times for the girls in my class so i made it onto the team... yay!!! i was put on the 1st leg & i was super duper nervous. i knew i could do the running, but the hand-off, my form & passing i was really worried about. so to help me daddy & i had a practice lesson on the school track to help me be more comfortable. daddy was a track star when he was in high school so i knew if anyone could help me it would be him!
even the night before the relay my friend & i met up at the track to practice our hand-offs so we'd really be ready the next morning.
then yesterday was the day of the relays & it was so cold... none of us we're expecting it to be so chilly. let me tell you we couldn't wait to get on the track so we could run & get warmed up. the whole school was out at the track to cheer on all the runners & there were signs everywhere people had made for all of us. mommy even made a sign with all of my teammates name's on it.
finally it was our turn to run, talk about butterflies going off like fireworks in my tummy. i was first leg & i was terrified about coach rice blowing the whistle to begin our relay... when she did i took off like a rocket. it's kinda hard being in lane one because everyone else is so far ahead of you & you can't pass until you're a certain point. by the time that point comes along everybody is already in your lane & getting around them is not easy. i was able to pass 2 people so that put us in 3rd place when i passed the baton, by the end of the race our class came in 4th. we ran our hardest & we were so happy we weren't in last place.
our class boys came in 2nd place so we were really happy for them. next year hopefully i'll make the relay team again & livi too!

  1. Look at those long legs fly and I do mean fly. Your feet are not even touching the ground! Congratulations on making the team this year and doing so well on your race. Passing two of your opponents was great and I am sure you will try just as hard and get excellent results then The fact you took this to heart and practiced with your dad (he looks like a famous actor with no beard and shades instead of a rock star with the beard) and then with your friend shows your commitment. This type of dedication is what will make you a winner in life. You may never pass everyone (although I think you will) but it would not be from lack of effort, concentration and commitment. Because of these sacrifices you will be a “winner” in life and a team player as well. I also think your mom and dad’s commitment to you is very helpful, don’t you? The fact you dad was there helping you train and your mother making up those signs and being a cheerleader for your team is commitment and involvement that is so important to you knowing you always being on a great team – at home and in your other activities. I cannot wait to see how well you do next year!   
