livi's kindegarten program

tonight was livi's big kindergarten program that we've all been waiting for! the whole program was dedicated to singing songs & talking about the great state of texas! this was the very first year that all the kindergarten classes got together to do a program in the gym, instead of being in their individual classrooms. all the children were asked if they wanted to have a speaking part, a lot of children said no because they were to scared. guess what... livi said YES & she's been terrified ever since, but she is bound & determined to get up there to say her speech! the whole kindergarten have been practicing for weeks because it was so important for them to tackle this & everyone was sooooooooo nervous. tonight all the children were dressed in western wear like cowboy hats, bandanas, cowboy boots, big belt buckles & button down shirts... they were beyond adorable! they started with the pledge to the us flag then the pledge to the texas flag & finished with dickinson dolphin pledge. after that it was time for "texas our texas" followed by some texas symbols & nursery rhymes turned texan. then we clapped along to "T-E-X-A-S" followed by even more texas facts & fun  texan nursery rhymes. then they finished it out loud & strong with "deep in the heart of texas"! they were so AWESOME, they knew all their parts & every lyric to the songs! livi remembered her lines & said them perfectly clear... whoo hoo! she was really nervous about speaking into the microphone so we've been practicing every night at home & she rocked it! all the kindergarten teachers & students deserve a huge round of applause because they were AMAZING!!!
this was livi's speech:
the texas state dish is chili. people in texas do not consider chili made with beans good to eat. chili is tasty especially on a cold day. everyone loves a chili cook-off.
yay livi, we're so proud of you! you did it!!!
of course afterwards we just had to go out for ice cream to celebrate another milestone for livi!!!

  1. My two grand granddaughters continue to just “floor” me with their courage, commitment, thoughtfulness, and how each of them continually challenge themselves out of their comfort zone and right into terror mode. They do this to themselves and when it is over and they each usually end up nailing it! But the biggest reward comes later after the event, it is when that victory becomes part of you and how you look at life and its future challenges. You will start realizing that this is another opportunity to learn something more and know you can beat this new challenge. You are learning to make decisions and see them out. You are also learning how to make good decisions by yourself. You will learn which challenges to turn down, either because they are stupid are of no merit, or just too dangerous. Example: if someone offered you a job cleaning out shark tanks at feeding time in just a bathing suit and snorkel with the lights turned out you would probably walk away and find a better way to spend your time. I am so amazed that Livi volunteered to do that speech and proud of the way she “nailed” it. All the kids looked great but I think Livi looks particular comfortable in her boots. She is cowgirl all the way. No wonder the boys are hot on her trail. I could not view either of the two video clips as they have a “private video” banner that comes up with a sour face when I try to view them. Please figure out a way for me to see these clips as I very much want to share this event as much as possible!

  2. Those two clips are just great. In the singing one Livi has all the right moves, doesn't seem to miss a single word, and looks to be enjoying herself to the max. Very relaxed, confident young lady. In the clip that has her reading her speech ( she can read much better than me at that age). She is crystal clean and other than rushing herself a bit did perfect. Her next time she will go a little slower and not be as nervous because she has been there, - done that now!!! Very proud of you young lady. Love you --- DIno Pop
