this week mission week at the friends of north richmond, attack poverty location. attack poverty is an organization that try to empower people to attack poverty in their life & community. they want to help strengthen under-resourced communities through spiritual growth, education, revitalization & basic needs. each summer friends of north richmond host mission week which is like taking a mission trip in your backyard. mission week is a wonderful opportunity to serve our friends & neighbors in north richmond with the love of Jesus. this year our church volunteered to take over "kids camp" for children k-5th grade which is just like vacation bible school. our church's goal was for kids to walk away hearing the Gospel & understanding a bit more each day of how they fit into God's plan. every night there is a new bible story to discuss with activities planned around it what the story is about. last night we volunteered to serve & what an experience it was. mommy & daddy were put with one of the 3rd grade groups while livi & i went to our grade to be part of the kids camp in helping & participating. we made lots of new friends & heard some amazing stories. it really hit home how lucky we all are to have each other & how blessed we are. every night we provided the kids dinner with 2 snack times also & some were saving their food to take home to share while others were so hungry that were gulping as much as they could as fast as they could. some children really connected with what we were teaching while others would run away. it was very challenging, but i'm so happy we did it. friends of north richmond have been hosting mission week for 5 yrs & this year they had the most kids enrolled ever... more than double from last year. our church does a lot with this organization so hopefully we'll be helping with mission week again next year. these kids need constant reminders that people care for them & are there. we're so happy that attack poverty exists to be there all the time for our friends of north richmond! if you'd like to learn more about them please click here or click here!
