G/T
almost 2 weeks ago a letter came home from livi's teacher about the CogAT. CogAt is a test that all kindergarteners took & it stands for cognitive abilities test, it measures the development of verbal, mathematical & spatial reasoning abilities. well livi's performance was above average, she even tested as a 9yr old in some of the abilities. in other words you can say she rocked that test!
the following monday another letter came home with livi saying they wanted to place her in the gifted & talented (G/T) program at school. so every week she'll be pulled out of her class for about one hour & a half to learn concepts that will help with the development of higher-level of thinking and problem solving skills, independent inquiry and research and creative thinking will be taught. livi will get G/T services throughout elementary school & she'll be re-sceened at the end of 5th grade. livi was so excited to be getting a tutor that was going to tell her be even more smart, she doesn't understand that soon she'll be tutoring people because she's so smart. today was her 1st time in her GT class & she loooooooved it. out of almost 100 kindergarteners there is 13 in the GT class & they were super excited about exploring their new G/T classroom. Ms. Bone (their teacher) read them 2 books, "i like myself" & "i'm gonna like me" then they made pages for their own book they're making about them. they talked about why they were chosen for G/T program (they just think differently than other kids) & how that can be a great thing. we're so excited for livi & all the amazing new things she's going to be learning & we love how pumped up she is about being in this program. we'll keep you updated on how smart cookie is doing & what she's working on.

That's my Livi! Tear it up girl. I am so proud of you (now where have I heard that before?) and your accomplishments. I am also very proud of your big sister for setting such a good example of study habits and loving school. But you and you alone took those test and made the scores that indicate you should attend "Gifted and Talented" classes. I understand you really enjoyed them so it is a good thing we have G/T classes. Keep up the incredible work.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was your age the G/T classes were held after school in detention. Of course G/T did not mean the same thing back then. "G" stood for "going to the principal's office again" and the "T" stood for "trouble is my middle name". I am glad it is used for a much better achievement today, aren't you?
